
Yves Leresche (Swiss, born in 1962), based in Lausanne Switzerland, studied graphical-design, became a self-made photographer as of 1991. He was first interested in Swiss citizens from the fourth world and has then toured Europe during 14 months, from the Sea of Odessa to St-Petersburg, passing through Gibraltar(92-93).The photographic documentary was reprensented in 40 subjects by the Journal de Genève, an extra Courrier International in Paris. In 1997, he receives the 3rd Prize of the World Press photo prize for his documentary on the subject of the Rromas in Roumania and his work is then distributed by the agency Lookat-Photos. He becomes a member of Lookat-Photos in 2001. In 2003, he publishes a book with his works on the Rroms and exhibits the project at the Musée de l\'Elysée, the photo museum in Lausanne. The final conclusion of his documentary on the Rroms obtains several prizes; Grand Prix of the Festival de Honfleur in 98, Festival de Biarritz in 03, in France, and his book (Benteli & Infolio) is qualified in 03 as being one of the most beautiful books of the year, in Switzerland. From 98 to 01, he has taken pictures of the children in Front Polisario, refugees in Algeria and the Saphir mineworkers in the South of Madagascar. Since year 2000, he concentrates his interests on the evolution of the people living in the Swiss society. He takes pictures of people in public areas, such as supermarkets, buses or trains, and puts together exhibitions of these pictures, in giant formats, shown in the locations where these pictures have been taken. As of the beginning of 2006, he started to investigate on the situation of the Rromas in the Balkans: Serbia, Kosovo, Albania and Macedonia. The outcome of this project was exhibited throughout the main cities of these countries as of April 2007. Yves Leresche also works on a regular basis as a photographer for local press and international newspapers (Fortune, Times Magazine, Spiegel). He is one of the Swiss correspondents for the New York Times.
