Luca Zanetti (Swiss, 1971) was taken out in the world by his photographer mother Pia Zanetti in the mid 1980ties to troubled Nicaragua. There he observed how to approach, provoke, tease, praise and look after a photographic human subject. Latin America got under his skin. Back in Switzerland he worked as a trainee in a photographic studio then at a weekly magazine. In 1991 he joined the photographers agency Lookat, but feeling the need for more education he attended classes for four years at the photography Department of the Zurich School of Art and Design, a long seclusion. He then won a grant to further his education in London where he ended up in many parties and as an assistant on an irregular basis for photographer Steve Pyke. His first long term project in 80 days around the world, started in London at the reform club in 1998 betting that it was possible to go around the world in 80 days like Jules Verne's hero Phileas Fogg. The journey was made in 77 days with his friend and writer Plinio Bachmann without ever leaving the earth surface. In 1999/2000 he traveled along the Pan-American Highway from Mexico to Tierra del Fuego a journey that brought Latin America up to surface from under his skin. Recently he has been working on stories in Colombia, Mexico, Brazil and Panama.
